Author Thijs Postma honored by Transavia
On the occasion of its 60th anniversary, Transavia will receive a brand new Airbus A321neo in retro livery in the summer of 2025, as a tribute to its rich history. This livery is inspired by the style designed by Dutch designer Thijs Postma in 1966. He was the creator of the iconic green color and the large, black T on the fuselage and tail. With this style, Transavia became very well-known.
Thijs himself says about this:
“For great recognizability, I designed a large letter T, both on the fuselage and on the tail. While I was still working on it, John Block said: ‘That’s it! I’m going to my lawyer now and when I come back in a few hours, I have to have a drawing for the painter.’ On Sunday all three DC-6 aircraft were in the new scheme at Schiphol. And could I also immediately make designs for letterhead, business card, painting of the cars etcetera.”
On 16 January, the CEO of Transavia, Marcel de Nooijer, went on an introductory visit to author Thijs Postma with a Transavia delegation. When Thijs (91 years old) designed the painting, De Nooijer (56 years old) had not yet been born!
The book ‘Aviation Art’ was of course presented for the occasion.

AVIATION ART
An exhibition in a book
That is the best way to describe Thijs Postma’s new book. His oeuvre comprises more than 580 paintings and drawings, the majority of which are included in this book in beautiful format. Also the book contains a lot of recent and unpublished work. With nearly 400 pages, AVIATION ART not only provides a wonderful overview of Thijs’ work but also of aviation; civil and military, historical and contemporary. The book is a paperbound hardcover, provided with a reading ribbon and printed on high quality paper that does justice to the paintings.
Other work
Besides airplanes, Thijs paints every other subject.
